Sad I am new to this and hoping that someone can give me some guidance. My son is 16 and is at a facility for boys. He had some problems settling in there but had 2 great months. Being on the honor roll at school 2 report cards in a row. A few months ago, Chris was put on Trazadone. Starting with 50mg and increased to 150mg. He suffered severe cold symptoms..nasal congestion, coughing, sore throat. Chris felt that they were due to the Trazadone. The staff felt it was a cold and gave him over the counter cold meds for it. I researched the med and they are side effects. I also discovered that otc cold meds are not to be taken on this med due to drug interaction. Chris decided to go off the med cold turkey. The nurse at the facility allowed him to do so and never contacted the prescriber until over a week later. I wasn't educated on the effects of going off an antidepressant cold turkey so I didn't object. The nurse said that he was on a low dose and there shouldn't be any problems. I believed her instead of doing my own research. I have learned. Since he has gone off this med cold turkey he has suffered terrible side effects. Uncontrollable erections, outbursts, mood swings, defiance. All symptoms of Discontinuation Syndrome I have learned. This behavior has gone on for 2 weeks now. In the mean time, Chris is being restrained, and bullied by staff members even though he cannot control what he is doing. Can anyone help me with this? I am in the progress of trying to get Chris out of there. I am concerned not only for his mental wellbeing, but is physical wellbeing is also at stake. Thanx
